Change ‘my’ surname or ‘his’?

Why do girls change their surnames after marriage? And will I be required to change mine?

My younger sister asked me this innocent question the other day, and I replied the obvious reply- you take on the surname of the person you marry, and it’s totally your choice if you wish to change yours.

She replied – I would never change my surname then. I would rather ask the guy to change his surname than change mine.

Now for some people, that would be the best reply, but this is where my opinion differed from hers and others.

It’s his choice if he wishes to take on your surname, just like it’s yours!

And that my dear friend, is pure feminism. Getting equal rights as men, neither more, nor less.

PS– Just a tad bit more rights will do.

Just kidding.
